Meriwether Help - Subject Heading Search
Use the Subject Heading Search to search
the libraries for titles that contain the subject you type. The Subject Heading Search
positions alphabetically within a list of valid subjects; click a subject to
view a list of titles that contain that subject. To search by subject, type a
subject. You can choose a specific library type or library to search, then click
Search to look for the items.
For more information about features of the Subject Heading Search page, read the
descriptions provided below.
Navigation Bar
Use the navigation bar to move quickly between search
options available in Meriwether. To search the libraries using another search
type, click the search you want to use on the navigation bar. The current search
type appears in reverse image on the navigation bar. To access your patron account
click Patron Info. If this is the first time you have accessed the patron info,
click Help and follow the guidelines. To go back to the first page you accessed
click Start Over. Click the help button to access the current page's help screen.
Subject Input Area
Use the subject input area to type the subject.
Separate subject headings from subdivisions with a space - space. For example,
to position the list of subjects directly to United States--History--Civil War,
you would type "United States - History - Civil War" and click Search.
The Subject Heading Search is not case sensitive; it does not matter whether you type
the subject in upper case or lower case. After you type the subject, click
Search or press <Enter> to conduct the search. If you would like to
clear your entries and start over, click Clear.
Include 'Websites' and/or 'eBooks'
Click 'Websites' to include any MARC record
that was cataloged with an 856u tag. If you have purchased a database of cataloged websites,
click 'Websites' to include that database in your search.
Select 'eBooks' to include electronic books in your search.
Choose Library Type/Library
With Meriwether, you can limit your search
to libraries of a specific library type (high school, junior high, architecture,
engineering, etc.). You can also limit your search to a specific library. By
default, Meriwether will search every library in your organization for the term
you type. To search a specific library type or library, choose an option from
the library type or library pull down lists at the bottom of the page.
Note: If you are using a Javascript-enabled browser, Meriwether should
select the appropriate radio button for you when you choose an option from a
pull down list. If you are not using a Javascript-enabled browser, you must
click the appropriate radio button before you submit the search.
